Marriage Licensing
All persons who intend to get married in NY State must obtain a Marriage License.
Fee
The fee for a Marriage License is $35.
It must be paid by credit card or money order payable to the City Clerk.
Duration of Marriage License
The license is valid for 60 days anywhere in the state of New York.
Online Application Procedure
You can fill out the application online at City Clerk Online.
Then, bring the form to the Office of the City Clerk (141 Worth St, New York, NY 10013) with ID and payment
In Person Application Procedure
Both partners must go to the Office of the City clerk, together at the same time.
The Office will provide the application form to complete in the office.
Your application will be processed while you wait.
You must wait a full 24 hours before your Marriage Ceremony can be performed.
In urgent situations a Judicial Waiver can be obtained, free of charge to waive the 24-hour waiting period.
Required Information
The following information is required to fill out the Marriage License Application:
Both partners must list their full name, current address, country and date of birth, name and country of birth of your parents, Social Security number, and marital history.
If you were married before, you must list all prior marriages. You must include your previous spouse's full name, date of the divorce, and city/state where the divorce was issued.
All divorces, annulments, and dissolutions must be finalized before you apply for a new Marriage License.
If your spouse is deceased, you must provide such spouse's full name and date of death.
